Materials Resources

The materials resources course provides an introduction into the different the extraction and utilisation of many common materials as well as covering the environmental aspects of extracting these materials.

Who should attend?

Anyone involved in material extraction or utilisation of materials that wish to expand their understanding of where raw materials come from and the associated processes and environmental impacts.

Course aims

To provide an outline of occurrence, extraction and uses of a variety of materials and highlight the environmental aspects of resource exploitation.

Learning outcomes

  • On completion of the course attendees will be able to describe the origins of materials resources and mechanisms of mineral formation
  • Gain an appreciation of the methodologies for resource, recovery, use and recycling at end of life
  • Gain an appreciation of the environmental impact of resource exploitation
